Former President Fidel V. Ramos was the former president of the Republic of the Philippines. He served as the head of state from June 30, 1992 to June 30, 1998. Ramos succeeded President Corazon Aquino who was the first female president of the Philippines, succeeding former President Ferdinand Marcos. President Fidel Ramos was responsible for initiating "Philippines 2000", which is an economic-based platform that seeks to rejuvenate the economic acceleration of the Philippines in order to become a competitive and sustainable nation before 2000.

He was responsible for bridging the gap between the Philippines and China due to several island disputes in South China Sea.
